Grizzlies Fight Cancer Weekend Presented by Stadler

West Valley City, Utah – This week is Grizzlies Fight Cancer Weekend Presented by Stadler as they have games on February 15th, 16th and 18th against the Kansas City Mavericks.

After the game on Friday, February 15th, fans can pay $5 and come down on the ice and paint a name of someone who has been battling cancer. Those names will be displayed on the ice during the Grizzlies game on Saturday, February 16th.

The Grizzlies will be wearing specialty jersey’s this weekend. Like last season’s fight cancer jerseys, on this year’s specialty jersey’s are names of people battling cancer. Those game worn jersey’s will be auctioned off after the game with proceeds going to local charities.

Don’t forget about the President’s Day 1 pm matinee against Kansas City. It’s the 2nd Maverik Monday of the season, where tickets are buy one get one free when you show your Maverik Adventure Card at the Maverik Center box office when purchasing tickets.

Last week the Utah Grizzlies completed a 3 game sweep of the Idaho Steelheads last week at Maverik Center, outscoring the Steelheads 12 to 6 in the series.

It was a different player playing the starring role in each of the 3 games. Julien Nantel scored 2 goals and 1 assist and Ryan Walters added 1 goal and 1 assist in Wednesday night’s 4-1 win. On Friday night the Grizzlies got 2 goals from JT Henke and 1 goal and 1 assist from Turner Ottenbreit in a 4-3 win. On Saturday, in front of an enthusiastic crowd of 9065 it was Mitch Maxwell who scored 2 goals, including the empty net game clincher with 46 seconds left to give Utah a 4-2 victory and a 3 game sweep over the division rival Steelheads.

Utah is now in first place by 4 points over Idaho. The Grizz have 65 standings points and a winning percentage of .677. Idaho has 61 points and a .622 winning rate. Utah has standings points in 7 straight games.

Kevin Carr was in net for all 3 victories. Carr stopped 62 of 68 shots on the weekend and made some key saves in the third period of all 3 games to secure Grizzlies victories. Carr has been in goal for each of the team’s last 5 games and has earned 4 wins in that stretch.

Roster Moves Last 7 Days

Forwards Julien Nantel, Grayson Downing and Defenseman Sergei Boikov were added to the lineup on February 6th from the AHL’s Colorado Eagles. Boikov played in the game on Wednesday before being recalled to the Eagles, while Downing and Nantel played in all 3 games last week in the sweep against Idaho. It was Downing’s first games in the ECHL after spending 4 and a half seasons in the American Hockey League.
