Game Day Blog in Rapid City: March 8th, 2019

By: Tyson Whiting

It’s a good Friday in Rapid City and a great day for hockey as the Utah Grizzlies are taking on the Rapid City Rush in the 2nd game of the 3 game series at 7:00 pm on ESPN 700 radio and ECHL.TV.

It’s also the 2nd game of 6 straight games between the two teams and for the Grizzlies, the hope is that they can get a few past Rush goaltender Adam Carlson. It’s been easier said than done. Carlson has allowed just 5 goals in his last 5 games vs Utah, including 2 shutouts. The Rush won 1-0 on Wednesday night as Utah outshot Rapid City 24 to 20.

Joe Cannata was real good on Wednesday night as he stopped 19 of 20 shots. Cannata is tied for the league lead with 4 shutouts.

Forward Josh Dickinson was assigned to the AHL’s Colorado Eagles yesterday afternoon. Dickinson had the game winning goal 21 seconds into overtime on March 2nd vs Maine. Dickinson had a good month of February, where he had 2 goals and 10 assists in 12 games and was a candidate for ECHL Rookie of the Month.

We will see if tonight is a great night for 2 standings points and the Grizzlies need the victory as they are just 3 points behind both Tulsa and Idaho for first place in the Mountain Division standings.

Oh, and if you ever find yourself in Rapid City near the arena, I recommend a Mexican restaurant called La Costa. It’s really good. You can catch tonight’s game on ESPN 700, espn700sports.com or on ECHL.TV.

Recently vs R.C

Utah scored 5 goals in a 3 game series on Dec. 12, 14-15 at Maverik Center. 4 of the 5 goals were scored by players who are not expected to play for Utah. JT Henke was amazing that week.
