West Valley City, Utah – The Rapid City Rush defeated the Utah Grizzlies 2-1 Saturday night at Maverik Center.
Utah and the Rush will complete Friday’s suspended game Sunday at 1 p.m. with the Grizzlies leading 3-1 at the first intermission.
The Rush scored two third period goals, including the game-winner on the power-play with 2:15 left in regulation to take the win. Trailing 1-0 at the start of the third period, Rapid City tied the contest 7:42 into the third period.
“You can't take anything for granted,” said Head Coach Tim Branham. “We have to make sure that we let this one sting for a little bit, come out tomorrow and finish off the win.”
Both goaltenders played well in the game as Kevin Carr stopped 24 of 26 shots in the loss, while Christian Frey stopped 32 of 33 in his first professional win.
Kyle Thomas gave Utah a 1-0 lead 11:40 into the second period on his seventh goal of the year as he scored in transition from Ryan Misiak and Michael Pelech.
“Kyle Thomas played a great game, obviously scored a goal but we other than that we need to make sure everyone is ready to play tomorrow,” said Branham.
The Grizzlies open a three-game road trip Wednesday in Dallas against the Allen Americans at 6 p.m.
Utah hosts Rapid City Monday, January 15 for a Maverik Monday Martin Luther King Day matinee. Kids under 12 will be admitted for $6 and adults will be able to buy one ticket and get one ticket free with their Maverik Adventure Club Card.
