Despite a very strange weekend at Maverik Center and a pair of setbacks, the Grizzlies are still 6-4-0-1 in their last 11 games as they open a stretch of seven of their next eight games on the road Wednesday in Dallas against the Allen Americans.
The Grizzlies return home on Monday, January 15 for their annual Maverik Monday Martin Luther King Day Matinee at 1:30 p.m. against the Rapid City Rush. Fans can buy one ticket and get one free with their Maverik Adventure Club Card and Children under 12 will be admitted for $6.
Utah is 5-4-3-1 on the road and 5-2-3-1 in their last 11 road games having gone unbeaten in regulation in nine of the last eleven road games. Utah defeated the Americans in Allen 2-1 on November 1 and going back to last year’s playoffs have won two-straight games in Allen. Utah is unbeaten in two-straight and 1-1-1-0 in Wichita.
Defenseman Cliff Watson, who was named an ECHL All-Star last week, rejoins the Grizzlies for their road trip after being called-up on December 4. At the time of his promotion, he was tied for second on the team with six goals and had 14 points in 21 games. Watson scored the game-winning goal for Utah in Allen on November 1.
Michael Pelech, in his fourth season with Utah, leads the team in scoring with 33 points in 32 games on 10 goals and 23 assists. He leads Utah with 11 multiple-point games and with nine power-play points on four goals and five assists. Pelech, who will play in his 200th regular season game with Utah Wednesday, has 64 goals and 109 assists for 173 points in the regular season with Utah.
Utah has a three-goal period in three of their last four games and five times in the last nine games.
Back In The Lineup
Defenseman James Melindy returned to the Grizzlies on Saturday after his third call-up of the year. The Grizzlies also have received rookie forward Austin Ortega from Anaheim’s AHL affiliate in San Diego. He had one goal and one assist Sunday. Out of the University of Nebraska-Omaha, Ortega played one year with Grizzlies captain Ryan Walters in college.

Z-104, Utah’s #1 Country Station, returns as the Official Country Station of the Grizzlies with select games broadcast live on the legendary KSOP AM 1370/104.3 FM HD-2; featuring Utah’s Classic Country. Denny joins Dave and Deb the Friday of every weekend home stand just after 9 a.m. on Z-104, followed by a visit with Country Joe on AM 1370/104.3 FM HD-2.
KMYU has begun their sixth season of televising Grizzlies games this season with the next broadcast coming up this Saturday, January 27 as Denny joins Adam Mikulich from 2 News Talkin’ Sports. KMYU can be seen on channel 12 on satellite, 22 on cable and 2.2 Over-The-Air.
