Five Or More
The Grizzlies have scored five goals or more in five of their last seven games. 11 goals over the weekend against Idaho was oddly enough the third time they’ve scored 11 goals in two games against the Steelheads in the last year. Utah scored 13 goals in back-to-back wins against Rapid City December 15 and 16.
Third Period Three Pointers
Friday, Utah scored three in the third in a 5:38 stretch to break a 3-3 tie in a 6-3 win over Idaho and Saturday they scored three goals in 5:59 to erase a 4-1 deficit and make the contest 4-4, before having a fifth goal waved off on what was called incidental contact with the goalie and then ultimately winning the contest in the shootout.
Coming From Behind
Utah has erased four three-goal deficits to force overtime this year, including two 4-1 deficits in the third period. The Grizzlies have trailed in four of their last six wins and in six of their 12 wins this season.
Utah rookie defensemen Chris Leibinger has one goal and seven assists for eight points in seven games and a plus-four during the Grizzlies current 5-1-0-1 stretch, including his first career three-point night Friday with one goal and two assists. The Grizzlies acquired Leibinger from Quad City on November 1 after recruiting him last year out of college.
Carrying The Load
Grizzlies goaltender Kevin Carr leads the ECHL with 1,385 minutes played, is second with 631 saves and is tied for second with two shutouts. The Grizzlies goaltender has been in the top five in the ECHL in minutes for now four-straight seasons.
Jon Puskar has scored all four of his goals this year in the third period and Utah has won three-straight games when Puskar scores a goal. Last year, Utah was 16-0-2-2 when Puskar scored one of his 22 goals.
Rookies Reinserted Into Lineup
Brendan Harms returned to Utah’s lineup Friday after five-straight games as a healthy scratch and recorded two assists, while Charley Graaskamp added two goals Saturday after four-straight games as a healthy scratch.
