Loveland, Colorado - The Colorado Eagles defeated the Utah Grizzlies 2-1 in overtime Saturday night at Budweiser Events Center.
The Grizzlies return home to open four games in six nights against Idaho starting Monday and Wednesday at Maverik Center before they head to Boise for games Friday and Saturday.
Utah tied the game to force overtime with a power-play goal from Ryan Walters 6:38 into the third period after Colorado led the contest for 41 minutes and 23 seconds after a power-play goal 5:15 into the first period. Jon Puskar and Greger Hanson added assists on the power-play goal. Utah outshot Colorado 10-4 in the third period.
“Our goalie was outstanding,” said Head Coach/General Manager Tim Branham. “We battled back to get a point and that’s something to build off of.”
Grizzlies goaltender Kevin Carr gave Utah a chance by stopping 25 of the first 26 shots that he saw before the Colorado game-winning goal 3:10 into overtime.
Utah went 1-8 on the power-play and killed seven-straight power-plays after the Eagles scored on their first power-play chance of the game.
The Grizzlies went past regulation for a league leading ninth-straight time and for the third time this year against the Eagles.
