Manchester Breaks 3-3 Tie To Beat Utah

11/24/2017 11:10 PM -

West Valley City, Utah – The Manchester Monarchs broke a 3-3 third period tie with an 8-3 win Friday night at Maverik Center.

“It's something where we are going to wipe it clean, let it sting a bit and make sure it doesn't happen again,” said Head Coach/General Manager Tim Branham.

The Grizzlies battled back from a 2-0 deficit in the first and a 3-2 deficit in the second period to force the 3-3 tie.

“We got off to a slow start, got behind the 8 ball, got down 2-0, tied it up by the end of the first,” said Branham.  “We traded goals in the second. We had tons of chances, couple breakaways. Then we just got outworked in the 3rd. We just flat out got outworked in the third, plain and simple. That's unacceptable. We will go back to the drawing board, watch some film, dissect it and come back with a better effort tomorrow.”

Cliff Watson (4, 5) scored both Utah goals (14:18, 19:29) in the first period that were assisted by Greger Hanson to tie the contest after the Monarchs scored 43 seconds in and 5:15 into the contest. Utah recorded a season-high 20 shots in the first period and 42 in the game.

Ryan Misiak tied the contest on a breakaway 26 seconds after Manchester took a 3-2 lead on their first power-play as he was first denied, but Erik Higby attacking, forced two Monarchs defensemen and their goalie to knock the puck in.

The Monarchs scored a power-play goal 26 seconds into the third period to take the lead for good. Utah had several chances to tie, including two odd-man rushes and hitting a post, followed by missing just wide on the power-play.

Manchester piled on three goals in the final 2:23 after an insurance goal 10:32 in gave them a 5-3 lead.

Anaheim Ducks prospect Angus Redmond stopped 35 of 43 in the loss.
