West Valley City, Utah – The Manchester Monarchs defeated the Utah Grizzlies 2-1 in a shootout Wednesday night at Maverik Center.
“As soon as we just get over that hump, we will have a lot of success,” said Head Coach/General Manager Tim Branham. “We have the players to do it. We are just a little snake bit on goals. I like where we are at. Yes, we need to start finding wins, but we are getting points and getting experience so when we start clicking we will get on a roll.“
Utah goaltender Kevin Carr stopped 25 of 26 through overtime, including two two-on-owe rushes from the Monarchs in the three-on-three.
“I thought Kevin Carr was outstanding tonight,” said Branham. “I thought our d-core played well and Eric Higby was good.”
Ontario rookie Spencer Watson scored the lone shootout goal for both teams in the top of round two.
Erik Higby’s first of the season tied the contest up 15:23 into the second period on the power-play as he followed a second chance. Ryan Misiak and Brendan Harms picked up assists.
Manchester took a 1-0 lead 15:14 into the first period and held the lead for 20:09.
“We just have got to keep things a lot simpler,” said Branham. “We have just got to shoot the puck. We have got guys with good shots, we just need to take those.”
