West Valley City, Utah – The Colorado Eagles scored 2:17 into overtime to defeat the Utah Grizzlies 3-2 Friday night at Maverik Center before 5,505 fans.
“We were able to get one on the power play and the penalty kill was good,” said Head Coach/General Manager Tim Branham. “Redmond made some big saves for us.”
Utah collects a standings point in the contest tied for all but 12:31 of regulation as the Grizzlies led 1-0 for 6:55 and Colorado for 5:35.
The Grizzlies took a 1-0 lead as Greger Hanson picked up a turnover behind the net and turned in for the score in his return to the Grizzlies lineup after three weeks with the Anaheim Ducks AHL affiliate in San Diego.
“It's nice to get Greger back,” said Branaham. “He's a dynamic threat on the ice. He's one of those guys that's tough to play against. He's so quick and shifty.”
The Eagles scored two goals in 4:01 at 6:09 and 10:10 of the second period to take a 2-1 lead before Hanson tied the game for Utah on the power-play with 4:14 left in the period as Michael Pelech and Cliff Watson drew assists.
Redmond made two big saves in overtime and Joe Canatta denied Utah’s lone scoring chance before the Eagles scored to end the game.
Anaheim Ducks prospect Angus Redmond stopped 31 of 34 in the contest.
Utah has now collected standings points in nine of the last eleven games at 6-2-3-0.
“We just need to keep going,” said Branham. “Our last 11 games have been pretty good. If we play like we did tonight, we will win most games.”
