Tulsa, Oklahoma – The Tulsa Oilers defeated the Utah Grizzlies 5-4 in overtime Saturday night at BOK Center.
Utah rallied from down 3-0 after one period and down 4-2 in the third period to earn the standings point and go to 5-1-1-0 in their last seven games and 2-0-1-0 on this current trip.
“Really proud of the group for coming back and earning a point,” said Head Coach/General Manager Tim Branham. “We played a pretty good game”
Tulsa took a lead in the first minute and added two goals in less than two minutes around the halfway point of the first period to build the 3-0 lead.
Utah came back in the second period with two goals from Brendan Harms as they outshot Tulsa 19-13. Harms picked up a puck after a battle at the blue line and walked in for the backhanded flip 8:37 into the period. Harms then tipped in a Mitch Jones shot after Utah came up with a loose puck in the neutral zone with 3:48 left in the second period.
After Tulsa scored early in the third period, the Grizzlies came back to tie down 4-2. Ryan Olsen (2) slammed in a loose puck on the power-play from Cliff Watson and Ryan Walters to make it 4-3 9:54 into the frame before Ryan Misiak tied it 2:23 later with 7:43 left in regulation with Kyle Thomas and Michael Pelech adding assists.
Walters finished with three points in the game, assisting on three of Utah’s four goals.
Tulsa scored on a two-on-one up ice to complete the win 28 seconds into overtime.
In the battle of the backup goaltenders Anaheim Ducks prospect Angus Redmond stopped 33 of 38 shots for Utah and Jake Hildebrand turned aside 38 of 42 for Tulsa.
The Grizzlies wrap up their road trip Sunday in Wichita at 3 p.m. The game can be heard on ESPN 700 with the Salt Lake Express Grizzlies Road Show beginning at 2:45 p.m.
The Grizzlies return home Friday and Saturday, November 10 and 11. Fans who buy a ticket for either game at the Maverik Center box office or UtahGrizzlies.com, when mentioning the offer, will receive a free ticket to return to watch the Grizzlies the following weekend on Friday, November 17 or 18.
