10/30/2017 11:54 AM -

West Valley City, Utah – Utah Grizzlies Head Coach/General Manager Tim Branham announced today that the team has acquired the rights to Ryan Walters from Rapid City in exchange for Peter Sivak.

Walters will arrive in Utah tonight and is expected to be in uniform Wednesday when the Grizzlies open a four-game road trip in Dallas against the Allen Americans.

The fourth-year pro returns to Utah where he totaled 19 goals and 22 assists for 41 points in 53 games before being traded to Rapid City as the skilled Grizzlies look to add an additional piece for the 2016 playoffs.

“Ryan is an elite player who brings grit and speed as well,” said Branham. “It is nice to have him back.”

The Minnesota native served as Rapid City’s captain last year and played in all 72 games as the team’s leading scorer with 30 goals and 39 assists. He started this season in Belarus before returning to the United States ten days ago.

In 188 ECHL games with Utah, Alaska and Rapid City, Walters has 74 goals and 96 assists for 170 points.

He played four years of college at University of Nebraska-Omaha where he was a Hobey Baker Finalist in 2012-2013 and had 134 points in 153 games. He was also the school’s Male Athlete of the Year in 2012-2013.
