Worcester Snaps Utah's Three-Game Winning Streak

10/28/2017 10:48 PM -

West Valley City, Utah –  The Worcester Railers snapped the Grizzlies three-game winning streak Saturday night as they added an empty-net goal before 6,829 fans on Saturday night.

The Grizzlies welcomed nearly 2,000 employees, friends and family from Rio Tinto as they wore Marvel themed Thor jerseys, while Worcester’s sweaters modeled The Incredible Hulk.

“Winning 3 in a row, we needed it,” said Branham. “Worcester was a good team tonight. They were better than us, that's for sure. We had moments where we took it to them and put some pressure on them but not enough.”

The Railers jumped up 1-0 1:00 minute into the game and would lead throughout as they took a 2-0 lead with 3:26 left in the first period and then made it 3-0 with 16:36 left in regulation.

Zach Saar’s first professional goal got Utah within two with 9:48 remaining as he took a pass from Brad Navin and walked in. Ryan Olsen picked up an assist as well.

"Ryan Olsen is starting to find his way. That's for sure. He's got some good ability," said Branham. "Zach Saar is a true professional. That was a great move on the goal, he was excited about that. He's a tough character. Both of those guys have been bright spots for us. Saar has got the total package."

Utah had two power-plays following the goal to try and get within one, but was unable to score.

“We had our looks, no doubt about it,” said Branham. “Our power-play needs to be better. I really like that we are getting chances, we just are not putting it away.” Utah goaltender Angus Redmond stopped 27 of 30 in the game.

“Angus made some big saves on the penalty-kill to keep them off the scoreboard,” said Branham. “He's definitely a good goaltender. We always seem to get a goaltender from our affiliate and this year is no different.”

The Grizzlies open a four-game road trip Wednesday in Dallas when they’ll take on the Allen Americans at 6 p.m.

Utah returns home to open a seven-game home stand Friday, November 10 against Fort Wayne.
