Boise, Idaho – The Idaho Steelheads defeated the Utah Grizzlies 5-2 Saturday night to wrap up the preseason in Boise.
Utah rested goaltender Kevin Carr, forwards Michael Pelech and Kyle Thomas and defenseman Taylor Richart in the contest while Idaho played with a full lineup.
“We saw a lot of good things, have some worked to do; but it’ll be nice to have a full lineup come Friday,” said Head Coach/General Manager Tim Branham.
The Steelheads led 2-0 after one period with two goals a minute apart in the first 5:39 of the game.
Utah’s Travis Howe and Idaho’s Reid Halabi fought twice 5:06 apart in the first period before both were issued Game Misconducts.
The two teams traded the first four goals of the second period with Charley Grasskamp and Ryan Olsen both scoring for Utah.
The Grizzlies outshot Idaho 26-12 over the final two periods as the game saw a scoreless third period.
Rookie goaltender Gordon Defiel got the start in goal for Utah.
