Loveland, Colorado – The Colorado Eagles defeated the Utah Grizzlies 5-3 Friday night in another wild contest at Budweiser Events Center.
The Eagles collected their 14th win in a row after breaking a 2-2 second period tie following their 13th win in a row Wednesday when they got by Utah in overtime.
“They’re a good high powered team, I thought we played a pretty solid game,” said Head Coach/General Manager Tim Braham. “Just some bad puck luck, we couldn’t keep the puck out of our net. I honestly thought we played a pretty solid game five-on-five, but they scored more on special teams and that was the difference.”
Utah will go for the split tomorrow when the two teams complete the three-game series in Loveland.
“Just some real bad bounces and we have to fight through those,” said Branham. “I think if we play the same game tomorrow it will be a different story.”
The Grizzlies erased a 2-0 deficit in the second period with two goals in 44 seconds just 42 seconds after Colorado took a 2-0 lead on a shorthanded breakaway.
Ralph Cuddemi’s 25th of the year on the power-play made it 2-1 as he fired in a puck from the slot assisted by Erik Bradford and Michael Pelech.
Zac Larraza then hit Erik Higby in the circle for his 11th of the year to tie the contest. Cam Reid also picked up an assist.
Colorado scored on a penalty-shot shorthanded to take a 3-2 lead with 6:52 left in the second period before making it 4-2 on a four-on-four goal with 2:46 left in the second period. They added a third period power-
play goal to build a 5-2 lead.
Erik Higby tipped home a loose puck in front with 1:54 left as the Grizzlies got within two grinding in the Colorado zone. Marc-Andre Levesque earned an assist in his second-straight game since joining the Grizzlies as did Michael Pelech for his second of the game.
Utah outscored Colorado 2-1 five-on-five. The Eagles scored two shorthanded goals, a power-play goal and a four-on-four goal.
Ryan Faragher took the loss in goal.
