The Situation
-Utah leads the Mountain Division at 7-2-1-0 in their last ten games.
-The Grizzlies are 10-3-2-0 in their last 15 games as they go for a 5-1 six-game home stand with a win tonight.
-Utah opens a six-game road trip Wednesday in Idaho before continuing on to Alaska the following week.
-Utah looks to finish January at 8-2-1-0.
-This is the fifth and final meeting of the season between Utah and Tulsa.


Looking For Four-Straight
-Utah looks for their first four-game winning streak of the year.
-Utah went unbeaten in four-straight December 21-30 at 3-0-1-0.
-Utah last won four-straight or more January 9-18, 2016 when they won five-straight games.
 
Goals Allowed
-Utah looks to allow two goals or less in three-straight games for the first time this year.
-This is the third time (October 14, 15 and November 14, 18) that the Grizzlies have allowed two goals or less in two-straight.
-Utah looks to not allow a first period goal in three-straight games for the first time this year.
-October 14, 15 and November 25, 26 they also allowed zero first period goals in two-straight.

Guns N Hoses Night
-Utah is 3-0 on Guns N Hoses Night under Head Coach Tim Branham with all three wins by one goal, and two of the three past regulation.

The Home Stand
-Utah has led or been tied after one period in four-straight games.
-Utah has outscored the opposition 10-4 in the second periods on the home stand.

Notes
-Austen Brassard has a six-game scoring streak which ties a Utah season-high, which ties Erik Bradford and Ralph Cuddemi for a Utah season-high.
-Erik Bradford has his second longest scoring streak of year (six: December 3-16) with one goal and five assists in the last five games.
-Michael Pelech has a four-game scoring streak with three goals and three assists and two-straight multiple-point games.
-Utah looks for 30 shots or more in six-straight games for the second time this year (November 2-12.)

 Last Two Games
-In the last two games, the Grizzlies have outscored the opposition 12-5 and outshot them 77-45.
-77 shots in two games is the second highest two-game total of the year, they had 81 over two games November 11 and 12.
-Utah has gone 4-12 on the power-play and 9-9 on the penalty-kill.
-The Grizzlies have scored six goals in a game for the fourth and fifth times this season and for the third time in the last 19 days.
-Utah has a period in each game of at least three goals.
-Phil Pietroniro has fought in both games.
-Six players have scored in both games with: Colin Martin (one goal, one assist), Tim Daly (four assists), Mathieu Aubin (three assists), Erik Bradford (two assists), Michael Pelech (two goals, one assist) and Ralph Cuddemi (three goals, one assist).

 
Plus Fours
-Jon Puskar and Taylor Richart set Utah season-highs with plus fours on Wednesday.
 
Home And Away
-In the all-time series, Utah is 3-0-0-1 with Ryan Faragher starting all four games against Tulsa at home, while Tulsa is 4-1-1-0 against Utah in Oklahoma.

Power-Play/Special Teams
-Utah looks to score a power-play goal in four-straight games for the third time this season.
-Utah is 16-17 on the penalty-kill over the last four games, their best four-game stretch of the year.
-Utah is 1-6 on the power-play against Tulsa this year with only two power-play situations each in the first three games of the series.
-Utah is 6-6 on the penalty-kill against Tulsa this year.
-Utah was 3-16 at home last year on the power-play against Tulsa and 13-for-16 on the penalty-kill.

 Back In Utah
-Austen Brassard returns to the Utah lineup after being called-up on November 5 when Utah was in Wichita.
-Utah was 5-3 with Brassard in the lineup and had three goals and four assists for seven points in eight games with Utah.
-Before his call-up, he had scored in five of the last six games with three goals, four assists and two multiple-point games.
-Brassard had two goals and two assists for four points in 20 games with Anaheim’s AHL affiliate in San Diego.


Special Teams Update
-Utah is 12-13 on the penalty-kill over the last three games, their best three-game stretch of the year.
-Utah is 2-7 on the power-play against Wichita this year and went 2-4 on Saturday, November 6 in a 5-2 win.
-Two power-play goals was the first time in four games that the Grizzlies have scored at least two power-play goals in a game.
-Utah went 5-for-20 on the power-play against Wichita during a three-game series sweep last year at Maverik Center.
-The Grizzlies went 13-15 on the penalty-kill against Wichita in that three-game series.
 
Shot Differential
-Utah outshooting Alaska 14-5 in the first period Saturday was their largest shot differential in the first period since October 28 and their fourth largest shot differential of the season at 39-25 and plus-14.

Five Goals Or More In Three Of Four
-Utah has scored five or more in three of four games for the first time since March 21-27, 2010.
-The 2009-2010 team scored five or more goals in three of four games four times that season.
-That team was tied for third in the ECHL and tied for the Western Conference lead with 3.61 goals-per-game.
 
Time On Ice
-Saturday night, Tim Daly logged 27:09 of ice time; 15:41 of even strength, 7:02 on power-play and 4:26 on penalty-kill.

The Situation
-The Grizzlies play game three of a six-game home stand with Alaska.
-Utah hosts Wichita Wednesday and Tulsa Friday and Saturday.
-Utah hasn’t lost two-straight games in over a month, since losing three-straight December 14-17.


Last Night
-Utah dropped to 9-2-2-1 at home against the Mountain Division.
-Utah went 1-7 on the power-play and 6-7 on the penalty-kill.
-Shots were 33-31 Utah and 12-7 in the third period after Alaska outshot Utah 11-8 in the first and each team had 13 shots in the second period.
-Ralph Cuddemi led Utah with six shots, Tim Daly had five shots.
-The game was 1-1 for 28:17 of the 60 minutes.

Faragher’s Return
-Ryan Faragher has stopped 72 of 79 shots and allowed eight goals in three games since returning to the lineup last Saturday.
-Two of the eight goals have come on the power-play.
 
Saturday’s/Game 2s
-Utah is 4-0-0-1 at home against the division on Saturday nights and 4-2-0-1 overall.
-Utah is 5-2-0-1 at home and 7-4-1-1 overall in game two of a series this year.
 
As Of Late
-Utah has outshot the opposition in eight of the last nine games.
-Utah’s last two losses have been by 3-1 scores.

 The Situation
-The Grizzlies play game two of a six-game home stand after scoring four-straight goals in a 5-4 shootout win over Idaho Monday.
-Utah hosts Alaska again tomorrow followed by Wichita Wednesday and Tulsa Friday and Saturday.
-Utah is 3-0-1-0 in their last four Friday games and 3-0-1-0 in their last four home games at Maverik Center.

As Of Late
-Only Allen (8) has more wins than Utah over the last ten games in the Mountain Division than do the Grizzlies.
-Utah has gone past regulation in four of their last eight games and gone 3-1 in that stretch.
-Six of their last 16 games have gone past regulation and they are 4-2 in those games.
 
Streaks
-Utah is going for their second four-game unbeaten streak of the year and their third game third three-game winning streak of the year.
-A point in the standings gets Utah a five-game unbeaten streak at home which would be a new season high.
 
Trending
-Utah is one of eight teams in the ECHL with seven wins or more in their last ten games.
 
Team Scoring
-13 different players have scored goals over the last 11 games, 7 players have three or more goals.
-Utah has scored five goals in two-straight games for the first time this year.
-Utah has scored a goal in eight-straight periods; 12 is the season-high from October 15-29.
 
Third Period Comebacks
-Twice in their last three games, the Grizzlies have tied the game late in the third period erasing multi-goal deficits. 
-Monday, Utah trailed 4-1 in the second period before ultimately tying the game with 3:16 left. 
-Friday, Utah trailed 4-2 with 31.7 seconds left before Ralph Cuddemi scored two goals in 15 seconds to tie. 
-Utah has outscored the opposition 6-1 in the third period over the last three games.
 
All-Star

-The Grizzlies return home to open a six-game home stand starting today with Idaho and continuing Friday and Saturday with Alaska.

-Utah will host Wichita and Tulsa next week.
-Utah is 10-4-2-0 at Maverik Center under Tim Branham averaging 6,379 fans and drawing over 100,000 fans on Maverik Mondays.
 
As Of Late
-Utah is 6-2-2-0 in their last ten games and 8-5-2-0 in their last 15 games, including losing three at home to league best Toledo December 14-17.
-Utah opened the second half of the season with a 5-1 win over Rapid City in game 37 on Saturday.

Last Time Out
-Utah scored four-straight to beat Rapid City 5-1 Saturday, not allowing a goal for the final 44:35 as the Grizzlies only surrendered a power-play goal in the game.
-Cam Reid made it 1-0 Utah for the second time in three games and it was assisted by Brad Navin.
-Ryan Faragher stopped 29 of 30 shots and the final 21 shots that he saw in the contest as he returned to the lineup for the first time since December 9 after an injury and call-up.
 
Scoring In All Three Games Last Week
-Cam Reid (two goals four assists), Brad Navin (four assists) and Ralph Cuddemi (five goals, one assist) scored at least once in all three games.
 
New Year’s Resolutions
-Utah has won eight-straight January home games.
-Utah is 17-4-1-3 at home in January under Tim Branham.
-Utah is 29-13-4-3 in January under Tim Branham and 3-1-1-0 this year.
 
Team Scoring
-Utah has scored four goals or more in five of their last six games and in seven of their last ten.

Ralph Cuddemi
-Utah rookie Ralph Cuddemi enters today with 17 goals, one behind Tyson Spink of Toledo for the league lead among rookies.
-He has two or more goals in four of the last five games after recording two in the third period Saturday and his first professional hat trick on Friday; which included two goals 15 seconds apart.
-He has 13 goals in the last 11 games and 16 points over that stretch on three assists.
-He leads the ECHL in goals since December 17.
-Cuddemi has now scored in five-straight games and can tie Erik Bradford with a six-game scoring streak tonight after he registered points in six-straight games December 3-16.
 
Against Idaho
-Utah hasn’t seen Idaho in 85 days after starting the season by taking three of four games against them. 
-Utah scored four or more in three of the four games and scored three or more in all four games.
-Ryan Faragher won both of his starts in goal for Utah playing in games two and four.
-Jon Puskar led Utah with three goals and three assists in six games; including two game-winning goals.
-C.J. Eick had three goals and one assist.
-Utah went 3-19 on the power-play, 1-14 at Maverik Center and 14-17 on the penalty-kill and 10-11 at Maverik Center.
-Utah has scored two goals against Idaho in three-straight first periods, outscoring them 6-3 in first periods this year.
 
New Acquisitions
-The Grizzlies have acquired four players in the last month who have all made major impacts.
-Brad Navin has three goals and nine assists for 12 points and a plus-six in 13 games after making his Utah debut December 14 after being acquired from Atlanta.
-Michael Pelech has three goals and nine assists for 12 points in 13 games since being acquired on December 13 after being acquired from Reading.
-Cam Reid has four goals and five assists for nine points in eight games after debuting December 21 after being acquired from Reading.
-Defenseman Martin Nemcik is a plus-five in five games since making his debut on January 6 after being acquired from Wichita.
 
Second Year Players
-Utah has four second year players who have already eclipsed their first year point totals.
-Jon Puskar has 11 goals and 11 assists for 22 points in 32 games after having nine goals and seven assists for 16 points in 44 games last year.
-Brad Navin has three goals and nine assists for 12 points and a plus-six in 13 games with Utah after having four goals and two assists for six points in 47 games last year with Atlanta.
-Kenton Helgesen has two goals and ten assists for 12 points in 23 games after having two goals and three assists for five points in 31 games last year.

 

Game Day Blog Entry: January 14, 2017

Ralph Cuddemi’s hat trick last night was Utah’s first of the season and marked the third time in four games that he has scored at least two goals in a game. He now sits second among ECHL rookies with 15 goals, two behind Tyson Spink of Toledo. Nine shots last night by Cuddemi tied the season-high for Utah set by Erik Bradford on November 26.


With the two goals in the final 31.7 seconds, it marked the fourth time in five games that the Grizzlies have scored at least four goals. 

Two goals in 15 seconds were their fastest back-to-back goals this year eclipsing the previous total of two goals in 17 seconds from Wheeling on December 2. It however wasn’t the fastest back-to-back goals ever against Rapid City. They scored two goals nine seconds apart February 15, 2016 against the Rush.
 
Last night was the seventh time this season that Utah has recorded at least 40 shots in a game, but the first time in their last 18 games.

It marked the seventh time in eight decisions that Troy Redmann has gotten the Grizzlies a result in the standings at 5-1-2-0 since December 21. 

A win tonight gives Utah their third series split in three series played in Rapid City as they look to improve to 6-2-2-0 in their last ten and 8-5-2-0 in their last 15.
 

Game Day Blog Entry: January 13, 2017

Utah has developed into a very balanced skilled team having six players with 20 points or more this season as they currently sit ninth out of 27 teams with the most players with 20 points or more. Toledo has nine, Brampton has eight and Colorado, Idaho, Alaska, Manchester, Orlando and Atlanta all have seven. 

Troy Redmann will make his 11th straight start tonight which is the most for a Grizzlies goaltender since Igor Bobkov made 15-straight starts February 4-March 9, 2015. Ryan Faragher made 11-straight starts earlier that season from January 2-23.

The Grizzlies went a season-high 8-8 on the penalty-kill on Wednesday night. The last time they killed as many as eight penalties in a game without giving up a power-play goal was February 17, 2014 when they also went 8-8 against Idaho.

Ralph Cuddemi has scored in seven of nine games with eight goals and four assists in that stretch.

The Grizzlies look for their fourth-straight Friday night win tonight.
 

Game Day Blog Entry: January 11, 2017

Utah went 2-2-1-0 in Rapid City last year collecting three of six points in November and two of four points the last series of the regular season.

Rapid City has been a good Wednesday team. They are 5-0-1-0 in their last six games on Wednesdays. Three of their last four wins have come on Wednesday. Utah is 1-0-1-0 in their last two games on Wednesdays.

Allowing an average of 23.75 shots in their last four games, the Grizzlies are fifth in the ECHL in shots allowed at 28.91 a game.

Not only does Erik Bradford lead Utah in scoring against Rapid City with three goals and eight assists for 11 points in four games - including three point games in three of the four contests; but he also leads all skaters in the season series with a  plus-six.

Ralph Cuddemi is the first Utah skater to score two goals in two-straight games this year.

Despite the 4-0 record against Rapid City, three of the four games have been decided by a goal with the Rush coming back in the third period twice to force overtime.

 The Situation
-Utah is now 4-1 in their last five and unbeaten in five of their last six games.
-Overall, Utah has allowed 26 shots or less in three-straight, including a season-low on December 28 in Tulsa.
-The Grizzlies play the second of eight games during their stretch of eight of eleven games at home in January.
-Utah and Rapid City will meet again Wednesday, Friday and Saturday.
-Utah is 3-0 on Saturday after winning at home on Friday.


New Year’s Resolutions
-Utah has won seven-straight January home games.
-Utah is 16-4-1-3 at home in January under Tim Branham.
 
Last Night
-It was the first game this year that Utah has had two players score two goals in game in Erik Bradford and Ralph Cuddemi.
-Martin Nemcik fought and was a plus-two in his Grizzlies debut after being acquired from Wichita Monday.
 
Erik Bradford
-ECHL All-Star Erik Bradford has two goals and nine assists in his last five games 
-Bradford has multiple-points in four of his last five games and four-straight games when scoring.
-He leads Utah with six multiple-point games.
-He is tied for second in the ECHL in scoring since December 23.

All-Stars
-Erik Bradford was named to the ECHL All-Star game on Tuesday 
-Bradford has five goals and 18 assists for 23 points in 20 games since being acquired from Toledo on November 14. He is the Grizzlies leading scorer since joining the team.
-Utah Head Equipment Manager Ryan Tall was also named to the staff of the ECHL All-Star Classic
 
Against Rapid City
-The Grizzlies started five-straight games against the Rush last night.
-Utah is 3-0 against Rapid City this year and has won four-straight and seven of their last eight against the Rush.
-Utah is 2-15 on the power-play and ten for eleven on the penalty-kill against the Rush.
-Utah has outscored the Rush 5-1 in third periods this season.
-Utah has held Rapid City to 26 or fewer shots in all three games and to 24 or fewer shot in two-straight.
-Utah has held Rapid City to two goals or less in two-straight games.
-Utah has scored four or more in six of their last eight games against Rapid City and five or more in four of seven games.
-Erik Bradford has three goals and five assists for eight points in three games against Rapid City and multiple-points in all three games against the Rush.
-Mathieu Aubin has goals in two of three and multiple-points in two of three games against Rapid City with two goals and three assists.
 
Rolling Offensively
-During this 4-1-1-0 stretch, the Grizzlies have scored 22 goals from ten different players. Erik Bradford (2) Tim Daly (3), Michael Pelech (3) and Ralph Cuddemi (5) have combined to score 13 of the goals in the stretch.
-Utah has had at least one period of scoring at least two goals in seven-straight games and in 14 of their last 15 games.
 
Number One Line
-Utah’s top line of Erik Bradford (2 goals, 9 assists), Mathieu Aubin (two goals, five assists) and Michael Pelech (three goals, four assists) combined for five goals and 14 assists on the Grizzlies during this 4-1 stretch.

D-Man In Top 5 In League
-Grizzlies defenseman Tim Daly has moved into a tie for fourth in the ECHL in scoring with seven goals and 16 assists for 23 points in 32 games. 
-He entered the league leading ECHL defensemen with 11 power-play points on three power-play goals and eight assists.  
-He also ranked second among ECHL defensemen with two game-winning goal at the start of the week.
 
New Addition To Nemcik
 -The 24-year-old is six-foot-four and 223 pounds  and is in his second professional season.
-He had one goal and two assists for three points in 17 games with Wichita and four goals and seven assists for eleven points in 48 games last year with the Thunder.

Redmann In Goal
-Troy Redmann has made eight-straight starts in goal for Utah and the Grizzlies have collected standings points in five of his seven decisions. 
-Redmann has allowed three goals or less in six of eight starts and has allowed two goals or less in four of his eight starts and in three of the last five.
- In the Grizzlies last four wins, Redmann has had shutout streaks of 54:28, 47:06 55:58, and 51:28.. 
-He has also had stretches of stopping 26-straight, 27-straight, 14-straight and 22-straight shots during those contests. 
 
Power-Play
-Utah went 5-20 on their just completed 3-1 road trip and scored at least one power-play goal in all four. 
-In the last month, the Grizzlies have streaks of scoring power-play goals in five-straight games and four-straight games before last night.
-Utah hasn’t allowed a power-play goal in three of the last five.
 
Stuff To Cleanup
-The Grizzlies have given up the first goal in nine-straight home games after scoring the first goal in their first eight home games.
-Utah has rallied to tie the game in six of nine, all three games they trailed from the outset were against Toledo.

Mini Streak
-C.J. Eick has one goal and one assist in his last two games, his first scoring streak of the year.

The Grizzlies play the first of eight games at home during the month of January.

 
Against Rapid City
-The Grizzlies start five-straight games against the Rush.
-Utah went 2-0 against Rapid City in December with a 6-5 overtime win on December 9 and a 3-0 win after being down 2-0 late in the second period on December 10.
-The Grizzlies have won three-straight games and six of their last seven overall against the Rush.
-Utah was 2-10 on the power-play against Rapid City in December and 7-8 on the penalty-kill.
-Utah has scored four or more in five of their last seven games against Rapid City and five or more in four of six games.
-Utah had eight players record at least two points in the two games with Erik Bradford leading the way with two goals and three assists and two-straight multiple-point nights.
-Mike Banwell led Utah with a plus-five and two goals and two assists after two goals and one assist on December 9.
-Mathieu Aubin had a goal in each game in December and added an assist.

New Addition To Nemcik
-The Grizzlies have acquired defenseman Martin Nemcik from the Wichita Thunder in exchange for future considerations.
-The 24-year-old is six-foot-four and 195 pounds  and is in his second professional season.
-He had one goal and two assists for three points in 17 games with Wichita and four goals and seven assists for eleven points in 48 games last year with the Thunder.
