-Utah and the Aces meet for the seventh and eighth time on the year after these two games were added following the ECHL’s revised schedule.
-Utah has gone 20-5-2-3 since being swept in three-straight games in Anchorage before Christmas by a combined score of 13-5.
-The two teams played December 4, 6 and 7 at Maverik Center with Utah winning 2-0 on the 4th, Alaska 1-0 in a shootout on the 6th and the Aces broke a 0-0 tie and scored an empty-netter to beat Utah on December 7 3-0.
-Igor Bobkov has stopped all 56 shots that he’s seen against Alaska this year.
-All four Utah losses to Alaska this year occurred when Ben Meisner was in goal
-Utah went 1-15 on power-play at Maverik Center and 15-15 on PK.
-Utah is 2-28 overall against Alaska on the power-play this year and 29-32 on the PK.
-Kris Hogg has three goals this year to lead Utah against Alaska, Vinny Scarsella has one goal and three assists.

The Grizzlies and Steelheads wrap up four games in six nights this evening in Boise after playing three-straight one-goal games at Maverik Center Monday, Wednesday and Friday; with Utah taking two of the three and two-straight.
Last night’s wild 5-4 Utah overtime win wasn’t exactly friendly to two elite goaltenders as each team had two power-play goals. Idaho’s Pat Nagle gave up more than three goals in a game for the first time since December 14. Igor Bobkov gave up four goals in regulation for the first time all season.
Friday was the first night in 18 games that the Grizzlies have allowed more than three goals in regulation. And even so, this team won their second-straight game when allowing four goals or more by beating Stockton 6-4 on January 11 as well.
Utah and Idaho enter tonight tied for fourth in the Western Conference standings with 60 points, with the Steelheads holding two games in hand. The two teams trail Colorado by one point for third.
D.J. Jelitto has multiple-points in four of his last six games against Idaho after one goal and one assist last night. Jelitto leads all skaters in the series between Utah and Idaho so far with six goals and four assists for 10 points in eight games. Michael Pelech leads all Utah and Idaho skaters with nine assists after his three-point night last evening when he tallied one goal and two assists.
And finally, last night’s crowd of 6,050 at Maverik Center was the largest crowd in the ECHL.

-This Grizzlies play game three of six-straight games against division opponents in a stretch of five of six at home.
-Goaltender Aaron Dell has been loaned to the AHL’s Abbotsford Heat, the top affiliate of the Calgary Flames.
-Dell was with the Los Angeles Kings AHL affiliate in Manchester from November 15-December 26.
-Utah wraps up 14 games in 24 nights tomorrow.
-Utah will be playing Friday or Saturday only from now until March 19.
-Danick Paqeute has two goals and four assists for six points in his last seven games.
-He has three goals and six assists for 9 points in his last 11 games.
-Utah has the third best home record in the league at 15-5-2-4.
-Utah is 3-1-1-0 against Idaho at home this year.
-The Grizzlies return home next Friday and Saturday to host Alaska.
-Idaho plays in Utah again on March 22, April 11 and April 12.
-Utah has won five-straight Friday nights going back to January 18.
Stingy On Shots
-The Grizzlies have allowed 29 shots or less in 39 of their 52 games played.
-Utah is sixth in the ECHL allowing just 26.37 shots-per-game.
Wins Vs Idaho
-All four Idaho wins have been by a single goal, not including empty-netters.
-Three of four Utah wins have come by two goals or more.
-Igor Bobkov ranks fourth in goals-against-average at 2.08.
-Bobkov also ranks fourth in save percentage at .923.
-Four of the top five goaltenders in the ECHL in save percentage are from the Western Conference.
-Five of the six goaltenders in goals-against-average in the ECHL are from the Western Conference, including both Dell and Bobkov.
-Bobkov is 8-0-1-1 in his last ten starts going back to November 30 with a .942 save percentage and a 1.55 goals-against-average.
-Bobkov is 2-0-1-0 against Idaho this year stopping 97 of 104 shots for a .926 save percentage and a 2.30 goals-against-average.
-Bobkov has allowed one goal or less in five of his last seven starts.

This Grizzlies play game two of six-straight games against division opponents in a stretch of five of six at home. Utah hosts Idaho Friday and plays in Boise Saturday. Utah is 17-5-2-3 since Christmas and has lost two in a row for the first time since before Christmas.
The Grizzlies lost in regulation for the first time since December 7 on Monday, snapping their all-time high eleven game unbeaten streak at 8-0-1-2 at home. The loss was Utah’s first on home ice in 71 days. Utah hasn’t lost two-straight home games at Maverik Center all season. The Grizzlies haven’t lost two-straight at home at Maverik Center in the same home stand since February 18-20 last year. Utah is 4-0 following a regulation loss at home this year.
Utah is 4-0-1-1 on midweek games at home this year and 7-0-1-1 on game two of a two-game series.
Utah is 30-31 on the penalty-kill in their last four games. Utah and Idaho rank sixth and seventh in the PK in the ECHL this year. Utah and Idaho are tied for fifth in the league, each with seven shorthanded goals.
Monday, was the first time in 22 games and only the ninth time in 51 games that the Grizzlies have allowed three five-on-five goals in a game.

D.J. Jelitto leads all players between Utah and Idaho this year with four goals. He has four goals and two assists in five games against the Steelheads. David Vallorani has two goals and four assists against Idaho this year for six points in four games. Steelheads rookie William Rapuzzi leads Idaho with one goal and five assists for six points in five games against Utah.
The Grizzlies have gone to overtime in both day games played this year, in four of their last six contests overall, four of their last eight games at home and in 15 of 50 games played this year or 30 percent of their total games.
The Grizzlies haven’t lost two in a row since before Christmas.
Oddly enough, Idaho leads the ECHL in penalty minutes with 1,018 and the Grizzlies are second at 956. Though, you couldn’t tell that by watching either team play or their head-to-head matchups.

The Grizzlies wrap up their season-long nine-game road trip tonight at 6-1-0-1 through eight games as they flew to California from Denver Saturday morning.
Utah is now 4-0-0-1 over the last eight days, including 3-1 in shootouts. They have come from behind in three of the last four games to earn standings points and in two of the last four contests they have trailed by two goals. During this current 6-1-0-1 stretch, Utah has trailed in six of the games.
The Grizzlies since Christmas have had a four-game winning streak (December 27-January 2), a five-game unbeaten streak at 2-0-1-2 (January 5-11), an eight-game unbeaten streak at 7-0-1-0 (January 17-February 1) and now this current five-game unbeaten streak at 4-0-1-0 dating back to February 7.
Colorado found a way to stop Utah’s streak of eight-straight games with a power-play goal last night by not taking a minor penalty. It marks the first time in 674 all-time ECHL games that the Grizzlies have never had a power-play in a game.
Phil Mangan has two goals and five assists for seven points in his last five games.
Utah improved to 10-2 when Danick Paquette scores a goal last night. Utah has more wins when Paquette scores than any other player. The Grizzlies also went to 8-1-0-1 when Michael Pelech scores a goal in a game.

The Grizzlies open the final third of the ECHL season tonight. They went 7-14-1-2 in the first 24 games, 15-3-2-3 in the next 24 games that started and ended with wins here in Colorado and tonight with two games left on their road trip; they look to open the final 24 games of the regular season on a strong note.

The Grizzlies return to Colorado where this red hot stretch started on December 27 with a 2-1 win when Danick Paquette scored a third period power-play goal after the team fell behind 1-0 with a second period power-play goal for Colorado. Utah then returned home to beat the Eagles 5-2 the following evening at Maverik Center.
Not only has Igor Bobkov and Aaron Dell split the last ten starts in goal for Utah, but their numbers over that stretch have been nearly identical. The two goaltenders have also been recognized by the ECHL in four-straight weeks as both have won a Goaltender of the Week award and each has been named runner-up for that award. Dell is 3-1-0-1 in his last five starts with a 1.75 goals-against-average and .932 save percentage. Bobkov is 4-0-0-1 with a 1.95 goals-against-average and a .930 save percentage.
The Grizzlies as of late have dug themselves some holes lately. They have trailed after one period in five of their last seven games and have still gone 5-1-0-1. Sunday, they overcame a two goal deficit for the first time in the last seven games and for the second time to get a point during this 15-3-2-3 stretch.
The issue for Utah falling behind has been one of their strongest areas in periods two and three lately. In four of the five games, they have trailed after one period because of giving up a good power-play goal. The Grizzlies however, have only allowed one power-play goal in periods two and three in the last seven games.

Utah wraps up their only three-game-in-three-night set of the year looking for a perfect 3-0 weekend.
It’s Utah first trip to Ontario since last year’s playoffs and their only visit to the Inland Empire this year after their game on Sunday, April 6 was replaced with this one following San Francisco ceasing operations in January.
The Grizzlies took two of three games from the Reign at Maverik Center November 8, 9 and 11, losing 2-1 in regulation on the 9th, scoring two goals to break a 3rd period tie in a 2-0 win on the 10th and closing out Ontario 3-2 in a shootout on the 11th.
Aaron Dell started both Utah wins against Ontario as he stopped 50 of 52 shots in a 2-0 win on November 10 and a 3-2 shootout win on November 12 before being called-up by Ontario and Los Angeles’ AHL affiliate in Manchester before the Grizzlies next played where he stayed until Christmas.
The Grizzlies beat Las Vegas 4-3 in a shootout Friday and 5-1 last night, while Ontario fell 6-4 in Bakersfield last night and 4-2 to the Condors at home Friday night. The Grizzlies and Condors passed in the night as Bakersfield was going to Las Vegas and the Utah was coming to Ontario.

Utah’s 14-3-2-2 since Christmas continues to lead the ECHL as does their 8-1-1-1 mark in their last 10 games. Last night as we talked about on the radio, there were however some detail areas the Grizzlies need to regroup on to continue this pace and Head Coach Tim Branham addressed them this morning with the team.
ECHL Goaltender of the Week Igor Bobkov was huge last night and is now 5-0-1-1 in his last seven starts going back to November 30 when he returned from a week in the ECHL. He has a 1.53 goals-against-average and a .944 save percentage in that stretch; the best numbers of any ECHL goaltender.
The Grizzlies have made some huge sleeper acquisitions midseason this year who continue to contribute every night as the team has continued to win. Two players have really taken to Utah’s system and coaching and put up tremendous numbers compared to their previous teams earlier this year.
Phil Mangan has scored the Grizzlies game-winning goal in two of the last three games and in four of their last 11 wins overall. After tallying three assists and a minus-six in 15 games with Fort Wayne, Mangan has seven goals and seven assists for 14 points and a plus-one with Utah in 20 games after being acquired on December 26; the day before Utah started this 14-3-2-2 run since Christmas. Eight of his 14 points have come on the power-play.
Gentry Zollars was a minus-one with one assist in four games with Wheeling. With the Grizzlies, he has one goal and four assists for five points and a plus-eight in 13 games. Utah is 9-2-1-1 with Zollars in the lineup.

Game Day Blog Entry: February 7

The Grizzlies who had a five-game winning streak and eight-game unbeaten streak snapped Wednesday in their first regulation loss in 21 days, bring in a five-game unbeaten streak at 3-0-1-1 against Las Vegas tonight.
However, all five games have been tied in the third period as the Wranglers are definitely deceptive if you look at their 11-27-3-1 record.
To show how well the Grizzlies have been playing, Wednesday night they had nine shots through two periods, got some key saves from Aaron Dell again and had a chance to tie late in the game after a power-play goal. Utah looks to rebound tonight having not lost two-straight in regulation since before Christmas.
With two goals allowed Wednesday night by Aaron Dell, Grizzlies goaltending has allowed two goals or less in nine of the last ten games and is fourth in the ECHL and .01 in back of the third spot by allowing just 2.57 goals-per-game. The Grizzlies are sixth in the ECHL at allowing just 27.36 shots-per-game.
Both teams neck and neck with Utah in the standings, in Idaho and Stockton have tough weekends as they take on Colorado and Alaska respectively. Colorado and Alaska are 12-5-3-0 in their last 10 games each. Las
Vegas and Ontario, Utah’s opponents this weekend in Las Vegas and Ontario are a combined 6-12-1-1 in their last 10 games combined.

The Grizzlies bring a season-high five-game winning streak into the contest tonight, where their current eight-game unbeaten streak (7-0-1-0) started with a 3-0 shutout win against Idaho on January 17.
Utah has been tied or ahead in the third period against Idaho in all six games played against the Steelheads this year and has a 3-2-1-0 record against Idaho.
The two teams enter tonight with nearly identical records with Utah at 20-16-3-4 and Idaho at 21-16-2-3. Both teams have 47 points and are in a three-way tie with Stockton for fourth in the Western Conference.
Jamie MacQueen brings a seven-game scoring streak into tonight’s game with five goals and four assists. A point tonight sets a new season-high as Michael Pelech had a seven-game scoring streak December 28-January 8.

With Utah’s 12-2-2-2 since Christmas, the Grizzlies have really made a dent in the ECHL standings.
They enter today tied in points with Idaho for the fifth spot, two points in back of Stockton for the fourth spot and four points in back of Colorado for the third seed. In addition, Utah has opened up a seven point lead on Bakersfield for the sixth spot.
The Grizzlies went 9-2-2-2, marking the fourth time in nine seasons in the ECHL that they have a month of winning at least nine games. The last time they won nine games was November of 2009 when they went 9-4. They went 9-3-0-1 in January of 2008 and 10-2-2 in February of 2006.
The Grizzlies have come from behind in the second period to win the last two games after they went two weeks and five consecutive games without trailing at all.
Jamie MacQueen has multiple-points in three of four games played against Bakersfield this year and has scored in all four games, tallying five goals and two assists. With three points last night, Mathieu Aubin has three goals and four assists for seven points in five games against the Condors.
