Grizzlies Announce Training Camp Roster

West Valley City, Utah – Utah Grizzlies Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Kevin Colley today released the team’s initial training camp roster for the 2011-2012 season. The team opens practice Monday. A complete schedule is located at the bottom of this release.

The initial roster includes six players from the Grizzlies 2010-2011 season, nine NHL draft picks, four defensemen from 2011 ECHL playoff teams and 12 players with experience in the American Hockey League.

The Grizzlies are the ECHL affiliate of the Calgary Flames and their AHL affiliate in Abbotsford, British Columbia.

Goaltenders
Andrew Engelage: 19-16-5 with 2.80 goals-against-average and .913 save percentage with Utah in 2010-2011. Was named league’s goaltender of week twice and also went 2-0 during midseason AHL call-up to Toronto.

Shane Owen:10-7-3 last year in ECHL with a 2.60 goals-against-average and .907 save percentage. Went 1-0 during AHL start with Hershey.

Defensemen
Gord Burnett: Spent 2010-2011 ECHL season with Victoria and has played in 158 career ECHL games, including the 06-07 season with Utah as a rookie.

Brent Henley: Veteran of 401 career games, including 200 in AHL and 180 in ECHL. Utah’s leading scorer during 2006 playoffs after being acquired in March from Phoenix.

Cody Lampl
: Played first pro two seasons in Idaho, after four seasons at Colorado College.

Derick Martin: 359 of 432 career games have been played in ECHL. Assistant captain for Victoria in 2010-11. Teammate of current Grizzlies Nick Tuzzolino and Ryan Turek in Alaska when they advanced to game seven of the 2009 ECHL Kelly Cup Finals.

Matt Sorteberg: Played last two seasons with Utah after being acquired from Idaho in January, 2010.

Ryan Turek: ECHL All-Star in 2011 with Victoria. Selected by St. Louis in 2006 NHL entry draft.

Nick Tuzzolino: Anchored Utah’s power-play in 2010-2011, scoring 25 points (seven goals, 18 assists) in 45 games, while also earning AHL call-up to Portland.

Forwards
John Armstrong: Played last three seasons in AHL after being drafted by Calgary in 2006 NHL Entry Draft.

Bryan Cameron
: 60 games with Abbotsford (AHL) in 2010-2011 and scored six points (three goals, three assists) in seven games with Victoria (ECHL).

Chris Donovan: 25 points (seven goals, 18 assists) in 59 games with Utah during rookie season.

Chris Doyle: Rookie season. Had 254 points (106 goals, 148 assists) in 255 games during five seasons of major junior hockey in QMJHL and OHL.

Riley Emmerson: 142 penalty minutes in 46 games with Utah in 2010-2011. Has earned an AHL call-up each of the last three seasons.

Mitch Fadden: 15 goals and 36 assists for 51 points in 37 games with Florida of the ECHL in 2010-2011. Played 53 games with Norfolk of the AHL in 2009-2010 and totaled seven goals and 12 assists.

Brett Ferguson: Rookie season. Had 23 goals and 38 assists for 61 points and 111 penalty minutes with Red Deer of the WHL during his final season of major junior hockey. Had four goals, seven assists, 11 points and 25 penalty minutes during nine WHL playoff games.

Jeff LoVecchio: Played 152 AHL games to start career. Had eight goals and eight assists for 16 points in 51 games with Rochester of the AHL last year. Has appeared in preseason games with NHL’s Boston Bruins.

Matt Reber: Had three goals and eight assists for 11 points in eight Utah playoff games last year as the team’s second leading postseason scorer. Made Utah debut out of college during final regular season game and scored in his first eight games overall.

C.J. Severyn: First year pro after four seasons at Ohio State University. Drafted by Calgary in 2007 NHL Entry Draft.

Podge Turnbull: First year pro after four seasons at the University of Wisconsin. Drafted by Los Angeles in 2007 NHL Entry Draft.
