Conference Showdown Goes To Las Vegas

West Valley City, Utah – The Las Vegas Wranglers (10-4-1-1) defeated the Utah Grizzlies (11-5-2-1) 3-2 in regulation Thursday night at Maverik Center in a battle of the conference’s top two winning percentages to end Utah’s four-game winning streak.

Utah trailed 2-1 entering the third period and tied the game on a Tim Crowder (6) power-play goal with 10:11 left in regulation. Matt Clarke and Tyler Ruegsegger each picked up assists as Crowder knocked in a lose puck. Las Vegas broke the tie and got the game-winning goal as Greg Collins hacked in a rebound with 4:25 left.

In the final 3 minutes, the Grizzlies had numerous close calls and a power-play as they looked to the tie the game on Las Vegas goaltender Joe Fallon. “We had some good looks and good opportunities (late) but their goaltender made some big saves,” said Grizzlies Head Coach Kevin Colley.

The Grizzlies took a 1-0 lead 6:43 into the first period as reigning ECHL Player of the Week Brett Parnham turned around and fired from the circle for his seventh goal of the year. Las Vegas though countered with a power-play goal 3:01 later and took a 2-1 lead with 2:17 left in the period as Collins knocked in another rebound.

Utah goaltender J.P. Lamoureux stopped a season-high of 41 shots in the tough luck loss. Nick Tuzzolino extended his scoring streak to a team season-high five-straight games with a first period helper.

Utah continues their home weekend Friday and Saturday with Ontario at Maverik Center. Face-off each evening is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. At both games, fans can take advantage of 50-cent Hot Dogs and Corn Dogs, $1 Tacos and $2 Beers along with many other meal deals on the Maverik Center concourse.
